The Alaska Bar Exam is a 2 1/2 day test. Days 1 and 3 of the Alaska Bar Exam consist of nine essay questions including three long essays, six short essays, and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test problems. To determine whether an applicant passes the Alaska Bar Exam, MBE and essay scores averaged. A combined score of 140 is required. Scoring is broken down as follows: The MBE is worth 50% of the scoring; 3 long essays are worth 15%; 6 short essays are worth 22.5%; and the MPT's is worth 12.5% combined.

To be eligible for admission without taking the Alaska Bar Exam (commonly called reciprocity), the applicant must have taken and passed a written bar exam in a reciprocal state or D.C. and have engaged in the active practice of law for 5 of the 7 years in any jurisdiction preceding application. The applicant must also have passed the MPRE and meet other admission requirements.
